============================================

Detailed explanation

One may achieve success in human life through worldly and cosmic powers, but while the worldly powers remain stationary, the cosmic powers accompany each and every moment of human life.

The only method to obtain cosmic supernatural powers is Sadhana-worship of Gods and deities, which yield results quickly. Kaal Bhairava is the fifth nature of Lord Shiva along with being a minute form of Lord Vishnu as well. His worship provides all riddance from all kinds of physical, divine and mental problems. Any person can benefit from His worship, adoration and Sadhana. One has to encounter obstacles, problems and enmities at every step of this poisoned age. Mantra Sadhana is a sure way to obtain victory over all these problems. Bhairav Sadhana is an excellent Sadhana to destroy enemies and obtain wealth, prosperity and peace. Detailed description of Bhairav Sadhana extracted from Shiva Puraana –

==================================================

Bhairav while known as the warrior of Lord Shiva, is also considered as an adherent of Mother Durga. He is also considered as God of night.

The scriptures detail two different forms of Lord Shiva. The Vishveshwara form is to provide protection to His devotees, while the Bhairav form is to punish the wicked. The Visveshwara form of Shiva is very gentle and calm, and it grants peace, prosperity and joy to devotees. The Bhairav form is of furious rage, and He is terrible and ghastly. Kaal-Bhairava Sadhana is the best solution in Kali yuga to overcome fear of death.

The very word Bhairav signifies – dreadful, horrible, scary. Bhairav is considered to have originated from, or as an offspring of Lord Shiva. Bhairav is one of the eight natures of Lord Shiva. He is a major warrior of Lord Shiva. The scriptures describe eight forms of Lord Bhairav, of which Kala and Gora Bhairav are more significant.

Ghost, vampires, Putana, Kotra and Revathi etc. are considered to be other Ganas of Lord Shiva. In other words, Lord Bhairav is the deity to eradicate various diseases, problems and troubles. Lord Shiva is the God of the Holocaust, and so problems, disease and various angels and messengers of death are His own troops. The general or leader of all these Ganas is Lord Maha Bhairav. In simple terms, Lord Bhairav is the commander who is always present with sickness, misery and destruction as their main operator.

Fear itself is an Tamas-expression, Tam indicates ignorance. The wise person understand that all materials and bodies in this world are fully perishable, so man should be fearless in each situation considering the immortality of the human soul. Fear cannot enter where there is light of wisdom and patience. Actually, fear is not only a Tamas-state, it is also impure.

One gets an inexplicable fearsome sensation upon hearing the name of Lord Bhairav. The fuming Lord Shiva with Brahma’s severed head in one hand and Khapar, Trident and Drum in the other three hands, invokes fear among the people, but He is very kind and benevolent for public welfare.

The story of origin of Kaal Bhairava in Shivpuraan –

Once Lord Brahma was seated on the summit of Mount Meru, and all the Gods and sages went to Him to understand about the Best element. Then Lord Brahma stated that He alone is the Best form i.e He is most exquisite and Paramount. However Lord Vishnu did not agree to this viewpoint. He replied that He is the creator and preserver of this entire creation. Then a great light appeared between them. A person’s image was visible in the aura of its flame. Then the three-eyed Lord Shiva became visible. He had a trident in one hand and He was adorned with both snake and moon. Then the haughty Lord Brahma stated that you have appeared from my own forehead. Lord Shiva got incensed with this unnecessary ego and His anger generated Bhairav personality. This Bhairav manifested very quickly started looking like death.

So, He became famous as Kaalraaj and became known as Bhairav due to fearsome personality. Even Kaal or Death got afraid of Him, and so He was also known as Kaal-Bhairav. He was also called as Aamardak since He destroyed evil spirits. He was given the governorship of the city of Kaashi. After seeing this ghastly image, both Brahma and Vishnu started worshipping Lord Shiva and became free of ego.

The second story states that Lord Brahma created the entire universe. It is believed that nobody used to die at that time. The load on earth started increasing continuously. The frustrated earth went to Brahma. The earth prayed to Lord Brahma that she cannot bear so much weight. Then Lord Brahma created death in the form of a red flag holding woman and ordered her to take charge of killing the creatures. The death refused to do so and stated that she does not want to commit this sin. Lord Brahma explained that you will only terminate their bodies but the spirit will continue to take births again and again. Then death accepted to Lord Brahma’s request and the creatures started dying.

The cycle of sin started to increase with the flow of time. Then Lord Shankar asked Lord Brahma for a method to end these sins. Lord Brahma expressed His inability to find such a solution. Lord Shiva gets incensed quickly. He became angry and Kaal Bhairav was born from His anger. Using His nails, Kaal-Bhairav cut off Lord Brahma’s head which had stated inability to find such a solution. Then he got afflicted with Brahma-murder sin.

Kaal Bhairav toured all the three realms but He could not obtain freedom from the Brahma-murder sin. It is believed that He got absolved of this Brahma-murder sin when He reached Kaashi. A celestial voice commanded Him to stay in Kaashi and to judge the virtues and sins of Kaashi-public. Thus Lord Kaal Bhairav established in the city of Kashi.

|| BhairavaH Poorn Roopohi Shankar ParatmanaH

Bhugesteven Jaananti Mohita Shiv BhamyaaH ||

The Gods while worshipping Shree Kaal-Bhairav have directed that He is Kaalraaj as He is as full of rage as Death itself. Even death is scared of Him. He is Kaal-Bhairav and so He is fully capable to destroy the wicked and the enemies.

Various teachers of Tantric scriptures have instructed to obtain Lord Bhairavnath’s permission before starting mantra chanting for worship or realization.

Atikrur Mahakaaya, Kalpaant-Dahnopaye, Bhairavaaye Namastubhaymenujhan Daatumahasi ||

This make it clear that Lord Bhairavnath’s invocation, worship and mantra-chanting are required in the initiation of all worship and prayers. Many people get afraid after hearing the name of Shree Kaal-Bhairav and say that He is a fury God. So His Sadhana process is Vaam-margi and it is not useful for us. But this is only their illusion. Each God has Saatvik (Virtuous), Rajasik (Royal) and Taamasik (Darkness) natures; and Gods possess these natures only for accomplishments of Sadhaks-devotees. Shree Kaal-Bhairav is so benevolent and kind that He immediately eradicates the problems of His devotees upon just normal remembrance and prayer.

The presence of Bhairav word in various tantric practices reflects His greatness. Amritanand Nath states in Yogini Hridyadipika Teeka of “Vaamkeshwar Tantra that Vishwasaya Bharnaad Ramnaad Vamnaat Shristi-Sthiti-Sanhaarkaari Parshivo BhairavaH ||

The syllable Bha signifying filling the world, Ra signifying travelling the world and Va signifying destroying the world indicates that the Creator, Preserver and Destroyer of the Universe Lord Shiva Himself is Bhairava. The Vivek-Teeka of Tantraloka has described the Bhairav form of Lord Shiva as the supreme Director of the universe.

The Tantra-Mantra of Shree Tatvanidhi introduces the three cosmic powers from meditation on the three syllables of Bhairav word, because all these three powers are contained in them.

The Bhairavi Shakti of syllable “Bha” is dark and is seated in Bhadraasana and Her aura glows with radiance of rising sun. This single face deity holds the bow, arrow, Var (boon) and Abhaye (fearlessness) in Her four hands.

The Bhairavi Shakti of syllable “Ra” is dark-complexioned. She wears red clothes. This five-faced deity seated on a lion holds sword, Khet (pestle), goad, mace, loop, spear , Var (boon) and Abhaye (fearlessness) in Her eight hands.

The Bhairavi Shakti of syllable “Va” wears white colored jewelry and clothes. She is the only sanctuary in the three realms. The blooming Lotus flower is Her seat. She holds two lotus, Var (boon) and Abhaye (fearlessness) in Her Four hands.

The Prakriti Khandaantargat Durgopaakhyaan of Brahmavervat Puraan specifies eight sacred Bhairavas – Maha-Bhairav, Sanhaar-Bhairav, Asitaang-Bhairav, Ruru-Bhairav, Kaal-Bhairav, Krodh-Bhairav, Taamrachood- Bhairav and Chandrachood-Bhairav. But the Chapter 41 of Ganpato-Khand of this puraan specifies Kapaal-Bhairav and Rudra-Bhairav as seventh and eighth form of AshtaBhairav. The eight Bhairavs described in Tantrasaar are Asitang, Ruru, Chand, Krodh, Unmatt, Kapali, Bhishna and Sanhaar.

The Indian culture focuses on symbolisms and various symbols for substances and sensations are available traditionally. These symbols are both visible i.e. major and subtle. The subtle emotional symbol is called a God. Since fear is a sense, therefore, it is also a symbol – It has a God, and the God of fear is MahaBhairav.

Goddess Mahakali, Kaal Bhairav and Lord Saturn are those Gods whose worship requires hard work, sacrifice and constant attention. All these three deities are considered as very hard taskmasters, hot-tempered and they pronounce stiff penalties. The deities have their own specific characteristics to protect religion. Every sinner or criminal is required to follow some strict rules. But these three Gods (Mahakali, Bhairav and Saturn) also fulfill the wishes of their seekers and worshippers. They always grant blessings for attainment of goals and completion of tasks to their Sadhaks.

Shree Bhairav is considered as a form of Lord Shiva. Various Forms of Lord Bhairav are described in mythology and Tantra scriptures. The primary forms are – Asitang Bhairav, Chand Bhairav, Ruru Bhairav, Krodh Bhairav, Kapali Bhairav, Bhishan Bhairav, Sanhaar Bhairav and Unmatt Bhairav etc.

The Sadhana of Lord Bhairav is a form of worship of Shakti. It protects from enemies and destroys all fears. Mere recalling Lord Bhairav in the morning causes all problems to vanish. A person obtains strength and courage by remembering Bhairav, Bhima, Kapali, Shur, Shuli, Kundli, Vyalopaviti, Kavachi, Bimvikram and Shivapriya forms, and no pain or agony troubles him.

Forms of Lord Bhairav Sadhanas-

Setbandh Teeka of Nitysodshikaarnav also described Lord Bhairav as Almighty – BhairavaH SarvshaktibharitaH. The primary head God of Kapalik sect of Saivaites is Lord Bhairav. Lord Bhairav is essentially Rudra-swarooop Sadashiv. Shiva-Shakti complement each other. One’s Sadhana doesn’t yield fruits without accomplishment of other’s Sadhana. Yatidandeshwarya-vidhaan has recommended to worship Shiva swaroop Lord Bhairav for a Shakti Sadhak. Rudryamal Tantra also instructs to worship Lord Bhairav to obtain success in the Ten Mahavidhya Tantra Sadhanas. For example, a Kalika Mahavidhya Sadhak should worship Kaal-Bhairav along with Goddess Kali. Similarly, there is a specific process to worship Shiva (Bhairav) for each Mahavidhya-Shakti Sadhana.
